My husband and I checked into the Chateau Elan Winery & Resort last Friday evening (09/16/22) to celebrate our wedding anniversary and was upgraded to a corner Suite on the 4th floor (#447) which we appreciated. Our stay went well until the day of departure. On Sunday morning (09/18/22), we woke up to irritating quarter size welts with inflammation and generalized itching on select parts of our bodies.  We immediately removed the bedding to inspect our mattress and headboard and was mortified to witness several bed bugs crawling on these surfaces.  I then alerted the manager on duty right away.  Shortly, came up to our room to investigate the situation.  We showed them the skin lesions on various parts of our bodies (which was somewhat embarrassing for me) as well as the live bugs on the mattress.  The employees apologized for the inconvenience, offered to offset the room charges and relocated us to 2 rooms down the hallway on the same floor (#453) so that we can freshen up before we check out of the hotel.  Once in the new room, we found more bugs crawling on our luggage and clothing upon closer inspection. Hence, we had to discard our clothing, shoes and luggage due to the infestation. We also took photos of the affected areas. Overall, I was traumatized and deeply upset that our anniversary celebration weekend was completely ruined by this unpleasant encounter.  Simply thinking about bed bugs now makes me feel queasy and causing severe anxiety, especially when I have to stay at hotels frequently due to the nature of my job.
