Recommended tips after hotel check-in:
1. Pick up the mattresses in the rooms and look under it. Check around the edges of the box springs.
2. Check under the box spring.
3. Lift up each headboard an lay it on the bed. Carefully inspect the hole where the headboard was lifted out of. Also, inspect all niches and corners of the headboard.
4. If you decide to stay in the hotel, do not put any clothes in dressers. Keep them in your luggage and your dirty clothes in plastic bags.

On June 25th, my husband and I drove over 3 hours to stay at the Quality Inn in Portage IN (2300 Willowcreek Rd Portage, IN 46368) to celebrate my birthday and enjoy the nearby beaches. This relaxing getaway quickly turned NIGHTMARE. Upon arrival at the hotel, I immediately noticed it was very dirty and smelly. Given that the beaches were our primary destination, I shrugged it off and we checked in. When we arrived at our room, we were greeted with someone else’s hair all over the tub, shower, floor, and bed. I was grossed out by this, but decided not to let it ruin our trip. We dropped out bags off, changed, and went to dinner. When we returned to the hotel, we were tired and ready to sleep. I chose to ignore the large yellow stain on the “clean” comforter and pulled the covers back. I immediately started noticing blood spots. There was blood, fresh and old, all over the “clean” sheets, pillows, and mattress. I stripped the bed, only do find NUMEROUS pee stains and blood stains all over the mattress. I also saw bedbug larvae and feces on the bed. Both my husband and I were mortified. We immediately went to go tell hotel staff what we found. The staff could not have possibly cared less. There was absolutely zero surprise on their face when we said what we found. We never were told “I’m so sorry”. In fact, all we were told by staff was “there aren’t any other rooms available so I don’t know what you want me to do.” We requested a refundable and we’re told that the manager would have to do that when they came in (the next day). I left my name and phone number and told them I expected a phone call the next day with a follow up on my refund. We left the hotel at midnight to drive home. It took over 4 hours, as we had to drive through a terrible thunder storm. When we got home at 4 am. We had to strip and shower, leaving our bags in the car, to prevent from bringing any bedbugs home. Instead of have a nice getaway with my husband. I had to spend the next day doing 3 loads of laundry on high heat, cleaning and sanitizing everything not washable, and vacuuming out our car. It has been months at this point. I have made several phone calls to the hotel. I have never gotten to speak with a manager (they just won’t take the call) and we still do not have our money back. We spent almost $400 to stay at what turned out to be disgusting heap of health code violations. I had no idea that “Quality” means blood, pee, and hair on the beds. This has been not only the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, but the worst experience I have ever had with a business.

How to get rid of Bedbugs at home

If you find bedbugs in your home you should remove as much clutter and as many items as possible from your house. Replace all bedding and examine the box spring for bedbugs.
