Alarming story I just experienced. I checked into an Airbnb 1/5/20 at the Texas Corporate housing, 3600 Windhaven Pkwy Lewisville TX 75056 unit # 2424. Unit manager Todd (405) 323-7078. At first sight the place seemed clean and cozy, but after 3 days I started itching all over my body. The very next morning I woke with my entire body covered in bed bug bites. I immediately contacted the host and he advised it wasn’t bed bugs, that he checked for them and he would have the place “sprayed”. The bites got worse over the next couple of days so I investigated, I come to find over 35 dead bugs in the creases of all the mattress and the mattress cover. I then looked even closer and found over 6 live bugs crawling around on the mattress. At 9pm I contacted the host and left an urgent message that the unit was uninhabitable and I needed a new place to stay. Todd never called me back, instead referred me to call Airbnb to mitigate the issue and that he was all booked for the night. Randomly I received a cancellation notification to my phone, refunding me the entire amount of the stay leaving me unable to leave a review. I spoke with several managers at Airbnb that asked me to submit pics and proof to their website and I would hear back the next day. After 2 hours on hold while packing my belongings into separate trash bags I started to feel dizzy with a headache so I checked into the ER. The hospital confirmed over 100 red bumps from bed bugs, then provided me medications and prescriptions. Contrary to Airbnb policy there was no effort to find me like or reasonable accommodations, so I then googled hotels nearby to crash for the night. The issue and conflict of interest with this experience is the fact that Airbnb can simply cancel a reservation do to their discretion leaving the renter unable to leave a review for the host and unit.
