06/22/18 We recently booked a stay at The Commander in Ocean City Maryland. We checked into room 561, and as always i inspected for cleanliness and infestations. At first glance the blanket seemed a bit dirty. After peeling back the first layer of sheets, I immediately noticed signs of a bed bugs. I proceeded to flip the mattress over, where to my surprise I seen a bed bug on the top of the box spring. My fiancé and I immediately left the room. Once I made the front desk aware of the situation, they kindly offered me a different room which I accepted. We had just traveled from Pennsylvania and just wanted to get settled in. We went to our new room 761 and I again did my ritual inspection of this room. I started by opening the drawer in between the two beds. There again was a bed bug right in the drawer. I grabbed my phone and immediately began to record video thinking management would think I was out of my mind. Once I returned back to the front desk and made them aware of the second bug I found, I was greeted by the GM. He asked for me to take him back to the room and show him what I had seen. We returned together to room 761 and I pointed out the bug in the drawer still crawling. He proceeded to tell me he did not believe this bug was a bed bug. I have had some experience with bed bugs. I worked with a pest control company in the past, and I can tell you with all the knowledge I have, this was in fact a bed bug. He also stated he was already in the first room 561 and seen no evidence of an infestation. He seemed very in denial that either room I reported had any signs of bed bugs. At this point there wasn’t a room in the house he could have given me to stay. I asked we be refunded our money and he granted the refund. When I was leaving he still had a few words for me about making sure I inspect any other rooms I find in Ocean City. He told me he would have his best pest guy look into the matter, which did not come off as too convincing. After leaving the hotel I knew I had to get the word out somehow for families to be extra cautious while staying here. There is a definite issue and I hope Management does take all necessary actions.
