The towels looked and smelled used, there was dry puke on the wall, but the beds seemed okay. I have always been that person who will come in and instantly check the corners of the bed. As I looked I didn't see anything! But I still wasn't convinced and decided to sleep on top of the covers that night due to it already being really late and I had been in a car for over 24 hrs. I needed sleep. I thought to myself I will be okay for one night. The next morning I found two bites on my right forearm. I instantly knew something was not right but I was trying to give this hotel a true chance. After all I didn't see anything. After being on the beach we all showered and decided to nap. Again I was on top of the covers. When I woke I found 5 more bites on my arm, two on my neck, one on my ankle and two others on my other wrist. I tore that bed apart piece by piece as my husband watched me with a grin. I still wasn't seeing anything! It was not until my husband finally helped me and we lifted the mattress to find the biggest bed bug who clearly just used me as a good snack. You then could see little holes all over the bottom of the mattress. I took a photo of the very large and active bug and went to the lobby immediately. I showed this poor guy my photos as I now was shaking with fury and itching all of these bites. He called his manager and then the hotel property owner. His boss did not trust his employees word and made Evan go up to the room to see the bug himself. Like me he took a photo. As he continued speaking to his boss, I got from their conversations that other cases had occurred recently here and 2 other guest refused to stay due to conditions. I realize I chose to stay after seeing the conditions and that is on me. But what is concerning is that it seemed like they are very aware of these things that are going on and not completely handling the situation to better their hotel for further guest. And the fact that I like many others were tricked on the condition by faulty reviews and photos that looked like a completely different hotel is not okay. They gave us two options after Evans boss received the photo. Full refund or a room in a sister hotel. We needed a place to stay and the second hotel is beautiful and so clean! I would like to say to the two staff members that helped us, thank you. They seemed like great employees. Very respectful, and honest. To reach out to upper management and them not believe you on a situation like this, frustrated me. I do hope this hotel changes for the better.
