My friend and I rented the large bedroom upstairs on the side of the street via Craigslist for the full month of October. We've been infested by bedbugs for more than three weeks. We had never had bedbugs before and all the personal belongings we brought in this place with us, we had it for months with no issue. We ordered a vacuum cleaner and a steamer, a mattress cover. We completely cleaned the bedroom twice and sent all our clothes and sheets for high heat cleaning to the laundromat every time. We bought anti-bedbugs stuff (traps, diatomaceous earth and more) at the home depot. We sprayed essential oils with alcohol. Everytime we were seeing bugs in the middle of the night, they got killed. Nothing changed. The "responsible" who has lived there for ten years now according to his own words, even when shown the dozens of bites all over my friend's skin who was also allergic, remained in pure denial of the situation and claimed that those bites were in fact caused by moskitoes. Needless to say we haven't seen a single moskito there the whole time even when their terrible collective heat system was forcing us to leave windows open throughout the night (he had either no heat at all and 55-60F inside or heat all night long and 80-82F). My friend saw a dermatologist nearby who confirmed bedbugs were biting her. When you dig a bit on the situation there after experiencing many more issues than just bedbugs, you realize no one is going to take responsibility or help solve your problems for the simple reason that among the 6 tenants (that are technically all squatters), no one is in charge for anything except for collecting the money that might not even go to the landlord and telling you you are some random asshole from Craigslist who cannot have any demands anyways... Those people make it clear you are just an undesirable guest with no rights whereas they've lived there for years and therefore have all rights. We left all of our nice sheets and blankets there, scared that we might contaminate our next place.
