My family and I stayed in the Red Lion Inn at 1875 Auburn Ravine Road, in Auburn, CA from 2/26/16-2/28/16) in room 128. On Sunday the 28th, I woke up covered in bug bites over my arms and neck, and when I pulled back the covers I discovered signs of what look like bed bug stains and feces. I had noticed some itching after the first night, but after the second night I had over a dozen fully formed bites that are still itching 5 days later. Upon going to the front desk, the desk clerk seemed appropriately horrified, gave us plastic bags to put all our things in, apologized, and said she\'d call the manager and see about comping our rooms. The hotel manager seemed very difficult to deal with from what I could hear from the clerk\'s side of the conversation, telling her to offer me a 20% discount for each night. When I expressed that this solution was not satisfactory, she called him back then went to the room with a maintenance person to inspect further. As my husband was packing up, the maintenance man showed up in the room...eating a bowl of cereal...looked under the bed, didn\'t bother removing the sheets any further than I already had to inspect, announced he saw no bugs and therefore there was no problem. Anyone who knows anything about bed bugs knows that they are sensitive to light and noise and hide, so they\'re very difficult to actually find in broad daylight with several people in the room. Further the desk clerk then told me she \"knew that there were already stains on that particular mattress and they couldn\'t be bed bugs,\" which I find a very odd response. Did the hotel really have a mattress with bug feces they didn\'t replace? Is it really possible in a hotel with dozens of rooms that a desk clerk would know the state of a particular mattress? Upon insisting I be allowed to speak to the manager, he refused to speak with me directly, and then stopped answering his phone. I left my contact information and asked that he call me. After repeated attempts to call him during the following two weeks, and an official complaint lodged with Red Lion headquarters, I have not heard back from the hotel.
