We stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa 8 days, from 3/16/16 - 2/25/16. My grandson had his entire torso bitten with bed bug bites. Then he broke out with an allergic reaction of red raised bumps from head to toe. It ruined our vacation plans because he had a headache so bad that he just wanted to lied down. We did not suspect bed bugs since this is a 5 star hotel but we were contacted by Westin management, AFTER we checked out and were home, that one of the rooms we stayed in was infested with bed bugs and being quarantined. The note from management said how they train their staff to watch for bed bugs. Obviously that training is insufficient since my grandson looked like a pin cushion with bites and an allergic reaction from head to toe. We had been in that room for 8 days and he started getting itchy after the second day. It made us wonder if they really changed the bed sheets or ever inspected anything. Bed bug infestation doesn\'t start in just one day! We are in contact with their insurance company and we will see if they are willing to compensate us for a ruined vacation. They are paying to steam clean our luggage but it may be too little to late since the bed bugs could have traveled home with us. Its a completely unacceptable situation from such a high ranking hotel. No child should have to suffer, day after day, with bed bug bites, like my grandson did. We never suspected bed bugs and just kept putting cortisone creme on him. My warning to all who stay at the Westin, is to inspect the beds. The minute you start to get any bites, suspect the worst and get out of the room! This trip should be completely reimbursed and my grandson should get some compensation for how much he suffered.
