On 7/13/15 at approximately 8 AM, I woke up with itchy, red circles on my body and blood-like spots on the pillowcase. I asked my son and his fiancé to come to my room (#312) to help me check for bed bugs. I found a live one crawling on the sheet toward the pillows and captured it. I reported to the main desk that I had bed bug bites, and that I captured a live bug from the bed sheet. The morning clerk stated that the manager would be in at 9 AM, and would I like her to give me a call. I repeated to the clerk that I had a live bed bug in a bag, and numerous bites on my body, could she send someone to my room to check the bed as confirmation. Approximately 10 minutes later, the maintenance manager came to my room, and confirmed that the live insect in my possession was a bed bug. He then checked along the mattress seams, headboards, and bedsprings, and observed live and molted bed bugs. By this time, the manager arrived, and she apologized for the occurrence. Since I could not remain in the room nor take my clothing to another location, she offered to place my clothes in a high heat drier for 30 minutes as a precaution to killing any bed bugs on my clothing. She offered me another room stay in that was checked for bed bugs and cleared by the maintenance manager while my possessions were being heated. My sister who stayed Saturday night with me in the room, left Sunday morning thinking she had mosquito bites. I informed her of the bed bug infestation, and she started the process of getting her house and clothing cleaned. Fairfield Inn & Suites at Elizabeth City, NC still charged me for my stay.
