We checked into the Hampton Inn on June 28th w/ my family of 6 after experiencing a plumbing issue that displaced us from our home. Our insurance co. put us up in 2 rooms. Shortly after we checked, 2 of my children and myself started w/ bumps on our body. My wife thought mine and my son's were mosquito bites but unsure of markings on my daughter that involved trip to doctors and steroid cream. Never did we suspect bedbugs being a newer hotel. After almost 1.5 weeks we realized we had bedbugs seeing 2 in the bed. On July 8th, a Sat am we discreetly asked to speak w/ management as not to interrupt others vacations/trips. No management was on site or "on call". Front desk personnel sent 2 staff members to check our room and said they don't see bedbugs. We had to show the marks on our children who looked like they had been in a jungle to agree to place us in another room. We laundered our own clothing in hotel washers we paid for and threw away suitcases and stuff animals. No staff assisted. Reaching the general manager was like Fort Knox, and she called our insurance co to have us removed. Management on Monday had forced us out of hotel after accusing us of bringing in bedbugs to the insurance co.and using foul language to us.The insurance co. stated that they mishandled the protocol for disinfection. Exterminators confirmed it was indeed BB and we could not be relocated until Hampton laundered our clothes in their commercial washers and dryers. The wash/dry we used and paid for was not hot enough. SO we had to redo everything in a laundry mat and I as a RN went into work and cared for ICU immunocompromised patients placing them at risk of contamination.
