At 2:00am on December 18 we checked into the Holiday Inn in Elk Grove, California. We saw a stack of mattresses outdoors in the parking lot and just assumed they'd gotten new mattresses. Our 10 year old son slept on the hide-a-bed. After 30 minutes he woke up in distress and covered in rashes. We witnessed the bugs as well. We spent an hour with him in the shower and trying to get him settled down. The next morning we did our best to control our clothing and suitcases by piling them in the back of our truck. I talked to the front desk and it was apparent that they knew there was a bedbug situation. They only reimbursed us half of our cost. When we arrived at our destination our son put on a sweatshirt and began itching again. We spent 6 hours rotating all of our clothing, persons and animals through a sauna doing our best to kill any remaining bedbugs. It was extremely distressful and worrisome for us.
