My husband and I checked in to the Comfort Inn Suites with our son on 3/11/22. We are visiting with Dothan All-Stars Basketball Team for the state championship tournament. We were awaken around 3:08am by my husband complaining of itching, burning, and swelling on his neck. He also has a bite on his thumb, left tricep, and even the crown of his head. I have one on my right upper arm and 2 on my right foot. Feeling extremely alarmed we anxiously searched our covers and found a tiny, less than and 8th of an inch long, transparent, blood filled insect on top of the sheet near my chest. We video recorded this bed bug and took pictures for proof. Knowing the importance of containment we didn’t want to walk around freely with others or participate in our tournament until we could properly treat all of our items in the room. So we report the issue to the front desk, but they tell my husband to wait because they were putting up breakfast initially. When they finally address the fact that we have bed bugs in our room, we were told that we couldn’t get a new room because everything was booked. Eventually, after others in our party complained of similar issues, they decided to change our room. However, when the house keeper checked the room that we were about to move into, she found a bed bug while fluffing the sheets. This house keeper stopped us from moving our things into the new room and reported the issue to the front desk. At the front dest they offered a new room and this same house keeper offered to clean and check it personally, before we moved. I think the house keeper’s name was Deon or Donna. Not sure, but she was the most helpful employee the hotel had at this point. We requested a vacuum and the use of a dryer for our clothes to be tumbled on high heat. We were able to use a borrowed vacuum and pay for the dryers on site to treat out items. My hope is that the hotel will properly heat treat the entire floor and not allow visitors anymore access until the issue is completely mitigated. Unfortunately, we observed heavy traffic flow with new guest poring into the hotel all day today. This was one of the worst visits I have ever had at a hotel and I am praying that no one else gets those rooms with bed bugs and takes them home, but it seems inevitable at this point.
