We checked in late for a quick one night stay on our drive down to FL on 03/19/22 and I used 9,000 of our points to get the room half off. I woke at 6:30 am and saw a bug crawling on the bathroom wall. I took a picture, zoomed in on it and it looked exactly like bedbug pics online. I videotaped it and called hotel mgmt who sent in a custodian. By then the bug had fallen off the wall and I had it on a cup in the bathroom sink. Then I saw another one on the other bathroom wall, pointed it out to the custodian and he killed it. Then there was a third one in the bathroom. I woke up my daughter in the bed and there was one by her foot in the sheets. She jumped out of bed and then noticed one on the ceiling. We quickly gathered up ALL our stuff (which was a lot as we packed for a one week stay in FL) while keeping an eye on the one on the ceiling to make sure he didn’t fall on us/in our things. Hotel mgmt apologized, bought us breakfast at their bistro, gave us 12,000 points towards another stay and STILL charged us for the room because it was a “type of charge” that they couldn’t reimburse. We were told that some lady in mgmt would be emailing us later that day. I didn’t hear from anyone until I filled out a bad report on their automatically generated email review. TC responded that day and said no one contacted me bc they didn’t have my number (yet I’m a rewards member) and asked me to call her back that day. I didn’t get the email til later that night so called the next day. She wasn’t there. Called main Marriott number and a “member of management” very flatly asked what I wanted to make me happy—I told them being given 12,000 points (basically given back my 9,000 points and given an extra 3,000 points) and still charging me for the room wasn’t near enough compensation for stowing bedbugs in our belongings and car. Once we got to FL, we went through everything. I even emptied our soft side cooler, threw stuff in the oven on 200 that could be heated and threw our cold stuff in the freezer. Put the soft side cooler outside and then found a bedbug inside the cooler!!! Idk what crevice he crawled out of. We then took everything to a 24 hr laundry (disgusting!!!) and threw everything (quilted bags, clothes, bathing suits, backpacks, cosmetic bags, jackets, undergarments, shoes, etc) in the dryers bc our $10 roll in quarters didn’t buy enough washes (IDK how much those things are—until now) but their change machines were broken so all we could do was pay for the dryers. Found a bullet in one of the dryers at 2am! It was a nightmare. The heat was so hot it turned some of our white items (shirts, bathing suits, sport bras) yellow. And all Marriott is going to do is charge us for the half-off room, reimburse us our points plus 3,000 and buy us breakfast? We didn’t even get 6 hrs sleep or a shower. Disgraceful so far. I look forward to hearing from mgmt.
